Amazing Regen, rubbish positional ability

$

I've picked up this incredible Regen with definite world-beater potential but he's ML only and left-footed which really doesn't fit well with my tactic which uses very narrow inside forwards playing on the opposite side to their weaker foot.

He's also an incredible crosser but average finisher which isn't ideal as my IFs don't do much crossing.

If he just had decent potential I'd develop and sell him for some profit but this guy is leagues ahead of the other highly promising regens I got already after just 6 months training.

Is it viable for me to train him from zero to accomplished/natural on the right or should I use up some of that growth potential making him two-footed and just keep him on the left as a two-footed IF/Winger hybrid?

Trouble knowing the difference between a good and key player

I'm currently on a 5year save and managing KV Kortrijk, Belgian top division mid table team. But this problem I have has been going on ever since I started playing FM (on and off every year). I never really got into a save on fm, but this year I have a little more time and this is probably the longest save I ever had... But the problem is that I never really had to buy players to strengthen the squad. So now I find it really hard to know what players will give my team that something extra, which players are just good to have, and which I just shouldn't buy. I mostly rely on my scojts and such vut when i think its a decent player my scojts say otherwise... I'm in the transfer period right now, and really strugling to determine what players are good to buy for my team...

anyone to start new game from 7pm everyday?

International Management

With the issues of tactical familiarity in international management, I tend to struggle plugging in my main club tactics in and just playing them because I have a whole off-season to get familiar running a 4-4-1-1, I recently took on international giants spain and am really struggling to find wins and form, often going down first, is this down to tactical familiarity? I'm generally successful with my tactic at my club, but does anyone have any advice on a tactic to plug in for spain?

Contract Renewals For Developing Players

$

Seems like there is a bit of a gamble with contract renewals for promising players as they enter their 18-20s.

Leave it too late and their demands can jump from 70kpw to 150kpw, decimating your wage structure.

Do it too early and you're paying out the higher wages earlier & they may still decide in the future that they want a better "key player" contract for 150k+ if someone like PSG throws money at them.

What's the best approach here? I've followed my normal policy of buying all the most affordable wonderkids and a few of them are starting to reach first-15 standard and will soon need upgrades on their c.60kpw contracts but I want to be careful with my finances. I can't afford 15-20 players on over 150kpw without breaking FFP, even if I use all my transfer budget just to renew my player without buying anyone new.

Motivation in coaches stats

$

Hi
I am just curious if the motivation stat for coaches and assistant manager has any influence on the players of games? I ama managing a lower league team and doing reasonably well and although my coaches are ok at the basics such as attack or defending, they are poor when it comes to the motivation stat

does this stat make the players more positive? If they are getting good motivation from coaches rather than just me, surely it makes a difference and if so, is it noticeable?

I'm writing an alternate history of football in which there's a UK football cup competition, replacing the league cups in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I think the best way to simulate this would be with football manager, and ideally I want it to go back as far as possible. Whatever year it starts from will be the year the cup is introduced. Here's the page, I have it going back to the 60's which obviously wouldn't be possible unless there was a mod for previous eras, so just ignore that!
UKFA Cup (UKatWC) | Alternative History | FANDOM powered by Wikia

I know some members here have done UK cups, so if possible could you tell me the winners up until the current season, or otherwise tell me how to mod the cup competition myself?

Here's my idea for it: The leagues and FA cups remain as they are, but the league cups are basically integrated together. So the leagues eligible will be the Scottish premier and first division, the Northern Ireland premier, the Welsh premier and the English premier, championship, 1st and 2nd. But I'm open to different ideas if anyone has them! Would anyone be interested in simulating this competition? It can also be done in any later versions of FM, or even multiple versions so they are updated accurately, just let me know so I can repost the thread in the right place. If you have made a British Cup competition could you please let me know a list of the winners (and winning results) so I can add them to the article? Thanks for reading!

Building rivalries

Just curious to see if anyone knows what it takes to create rivalries with other clubs that are displayed in the Club - General page?

I know competitive rivalries can be formed in the game as I've seen them from custom databases where I've simmed far into the future, but I've never noticed any in my personal saves (although I've rarely looked). Has anyone noticed that they've formed a rivalry with a club, and if so what happened to form it?

Any strategy to choose penalty taker in a shootout?

$

Hi guys, my first post here.
I was playing with Barnsley and I signed Craig Gardner who has 19 penalty taking.
I choose him as my first choice penalty taker of course. Guess what
He missed all SIX penalties he took last season.
Four seasons in, in knockout competition, I played in 5 penalty shootout.
Once again, I lost all FIVE penalty shootout.
I move on my career to Liverpool this season
In a huge clash for the BPL title against Man United, 1st vs 2nd
Emre Can missed TWO penalties in 77th and 79th minute as the game ended 0:0
I just got knock out in the FA Cup against Everton and that is my fifth consecutive penalty shootout lost in this save
My team have 30 shots, 62% possession while Everton have 3 shots but my team somehow got beaten.
Maybe I have some bad luck playing FM but as this stage, I think this is getting ridiculous.
Guys, any idea what is the best order to play the penalty shootout? Should I pick the best penalty taker to take the first penalty or should I save him to the last penalty?

Happy FM Gaming for everyone. Cheers.

Work Permits - Chinese Youth

$

I've scouted this incredible young talent from China but there's no way he gets a work permit at the moment (age 17) & I really want to pick him up before clubs start asking 50m+ for him! It'd also really help my merchandising to get a Chinese player which would help me compete with the insane wages PSG & Man U are throwing around on my save.

Do I just need to wait until he is good enough to get international caps or is that not enough?

To the Top with Tottenham!

Background
Hello guys,
First attempt at doing any kind of story so tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated. I had been getting bored of my usual saves in Scotland, mostly with my favourite team Rangers, so I wanted to try something a bit different for me and start a save in the Premier League. I also thought recording the save on here would be a good way to add a bit of fun and different dimension to it.

First thing first was to pick a club, and as the title would suggest I have gone with Spurs. I wanted to go with a relatively safe option as I am not the greatest FM player in the world to say the least!

Please note I am using a transfer update from a few months back. So a considerable amount of real life transfers will not be reflected on the database.

Aims
I the first few years...
-Don't get sacked (Got to start simple!)
-Win the Premier League
-Be competitive in Europe

Longer term....
-Build a squad with British core
-Win the Champions League
-Develop young British players
-Improve the Home Nations International fortunes

Budgets
As you would expect for a club like Tottenham we are met with great financial resources. We have a transfer budget of £54 million and a wage budget of £1.9 per week. With the current spending at around £1.6, it means there is a lot of room in the pot to play with!

The budget will come with following expectations, very fair in my opinion...

Staff
The very first thing I did when starting the save was review my staff. The existing staff was overall quite poor from my expectations so many were replaced with additions being made. I made the decision to retain Jesus Perez as my assistant for the forthcoming season at least.

We are shaping up nicely with all training categories at minimum 4* with the maximum workload for any category at average. Ledley King promoted to coach for First Team to act as a general coach while the other coaches specialise.

We also bring in Bernhard Peters from Hamburg as HOYD. I hope his Model Professional personality will rub off on the young player coming through in future!

On the Scouting & Transfers Team we also made a high number of changes. Firstly, I brought in Leo Beenhakker as Director of Football. My DOF's primary job will be to get unwanted players out the door, so I hope with a good reputation along with 20 Motivating and 17 Determination, Leo will be able to do just that!

For my scouts I have brought in no less than 16 scouts, bringing the total number to 20. The plan for my scouting with so many scouts available is to station a scout on an Ongoing basis in a particular region/country. My minimum requirements for scouts hired was 15 for Adaptability, JPA & JPP. Here is how I've chosen to set up, let's hope it can bear fruit!...

Squad
I am of course very happy with the Spurs starting squad. Appear to be a very well balanced side and no major transfers should be required in this Window.

Goalkeepers

Hugo is one of the best keepers in the business, while his deputy Vorm is an established PL goalie, so absoloutely no cause for concern here and fingers crossed it should be a while before I need to look at replacing either of these two guys. I will look to give Vorm all cup games, however it shall remain to be seen if I hold my nerve and follow through with it! In terms of a third-choice I will be happy to give one of the youngsters a chance should either of my senior keepers get injured.

Defenders

Again, great depth in here. Dier will mainly be featuring for me as a DC, so that gives us 4 really good, quick centre backs - I will look to evenly distribute game time among these guys.
In full back positions we have the explosive Rose and Walker at LB & RB respectively. These guys will have a big influence on our attacks I would imagine, and I'm hoping they can rack up the assists. Davies and Trippier look to be solid back up options.
You'll also notice in this screen I have brought in Lucas Leiva on loan from Liverpool. I felt we could do with an Anchor Man-type holding midfielder in the squad for the really big games. Should he perform well we can make the deal permanent for £5m, so an all round low risk deal!

Midfielders

In line with rest of the squad, we have a real solid midfield here - some real creativity in there! I hope the likes of Eriksen and Alli can still perform as effectively in the MC strata, as I will be playing with no AM. These guys will play there in rotation with Mousa Dembele, and young Josh Onomah when possible. Behind these guys doing the dirty work will be Wanyama/Leiva.
As for my wide options we have Lamela, Sissoko, Son as well as the Frenchan Nkoudo. I am undecided how these guys will be set up for player roles etc so their will be a bit of mix and match here.

Strikers

Not much explanation required here, Harry Kane will be the main man! I am hoping the FM version of Jansen will serve as a better deputy to Kane than his real life counterpart perhaps did! You'll see the inclusion of Kelechi Iheanacho on loan from Man City, with no fee involved, he is just a short term fix in order to add a bit of depth and perhaps offer something a bit different when required.

Tactics
My tactical vision for will be to play in a scrappy, defensive style in 4-3-3. This completely goes against the attacking, possession football desired by the board, so lets just hope the results can keep them happy enough.

Here is my initial envisioned tactical set up. I hope it will prove to be balanced set up, being solid enough at the back with the DM player protecting the centre backs and also providing cover for the FBs. I want the AML to drift inside and create space for the DL, while his opposite will be hugging the touchline and get plenty of crosses in.

Name:	Tactics.JPG

As you'll see I'll start with a very conservative Defensive mentality. I don't want my players taking risks and I want them to keep the ball out of our net first and foremost! I have also gone for a Structured set up as I ultimately want players to focus on doing their job. Increased creative freedom will be given to one or two players to try and unlock opponent defences.

I will only train this tactic at the moment in a bid to increase familiarity as quickly as possible, as I can't foresee us starting any games in a different shape at the moment, however we will see how this pans out! Could be risky move, especially given the criticisms Mark Warburton faced for his seemingly stubborn "No plan B, do plan A better" mentality at my team Rangers IRL!

I will have no TI's in place to begin with however I would expect these to be added as we progress.

So with scouting, training, squad and tactics in place we march into the season! Thank you to anybody who may have read this far, and an update at the end of August will follow. As previously mentioned, I am by no means a good FM'er so all feedback and suggestions welcome!
