On fm08 I remember Mika aaritalo was the player to sign for absolute peanuts and turn into an absolute beast but started off with a really small team, was just wondering if any of you guys have found any gems from obscure leagues that turned into a player that was first on the team sheet?

I'm playing as AC Milan, first season, form has been indifferent and it is down to being unable to keep 11 men on the park. I've had 73 yellow cards and 9 red cards in 18 matches this season. I don't have "get stuck in" selected in tactics and I don't select hard tackling on the opposition instructions either. Any pointers?

Hi All,

Anyone else do this?

Targetmania - Targetman tactic

Think this will be my last tactic of FM17. Wanted to make a great targetman tactic, and I think this tactic is lots of fun and easy to build a squad around. Created the base for this tactic with MSK Zilina in the slovakian league and improved it with Aston Villa in the Championship. Both teams had a great targetman that is quite essential to really make this tactic work well.
Here's the formation.

So as you can see it's a mixture of possesion and counter football. You can dominate the midfield with a lot of short passing, but also sometimes play extremely direct with a long ball for the targetman, who sets up the complete forward with a pass into space. Wingbacks in this tactic is a force to reckon, they just need pace and the ability to beat their direct opponent. The CM(att) is your shadowstriker, and i prefer a physical player over a technically gifted played here. Of course a mixture of both is preferred if possible. I wont go to much into the player roles for this tactic, as it's nothing fancy. Just make sure your targetman is quality, and that your complete forward is a prolific goalscorer and you'll be fine. CBs doesnt need to be ball players at all.
Hope to get some feedback for this one, so let me know what you think.

OIs : Sometimes i use them, sometimes I dont.
Match prep : Have the assistant handle it or use def positioning.

Emulate Arsenal's 10/11 tactic

Hey!

I was thinking of getting some help to emulate a successful Arsenal tactic from 10/11 since I love that attacking football they had back then. I'm currently doing this all from my head but I might have to try and go back to find some old match-footages to watch their roles better and the tactics. One thing I would like to change on however is the role of Alex Song, in reality he was a master of roaming from his position and leaving big gaps between midfield and defend but I would like that role to sit back a bit more which I believe he was meant to do but as in Barca and West Ham he took it in his own hands and roamed from position. Maybe I've got this all wrong and he was meant to play that roaming role to make the attacking more unpredictable and be able to keep possession better but this seems very risky to me, what's your thought of this? And one thing more, I'm truly a sucker for specialist roles such as playmakers, registas etc. but this seems not to go hand in hand with this type of tactic because in my mind Arsenal played a very fluid game back then.

I will start by upload just a picture of my formation and tactic with no PI and I gladly get some feedback on it.

The Rise of Northern Ireland - Ards F.C

Unfortunately my previous story http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/footb...crete-f-c.html got corrupted before it really began. So have decided to give one final go at an FM17 story.

I have decided to return to a Home Nation, after doing so well with Wales in FM16 and after watching Northern Irelands incredible World Cup qualifying campaign it just had to be them!

So just as a reminder, this is a long term challenge whereby I will be taking charge of the Northern Irish side, Ards F.C and attempting to propel them to European Glory!

Ultimately I would love to win the Champions League, but realistically I wont be able to achieve that, even if i had the time to play 30 years, which i don't. I will therefore just play and see how far I can raise the reputation of N. Irish Football and Ards F.C.

Hopefully I will also get the opportunity to take over the National side further down the line and have ago at some international trophies.

Club Information:

Now Ards do have a little bit of history, winning the Premiership in the 1957/58 season, along with 4 N. Irish Cups and 1 League Cup. However, recently they have struggled to maintain their premier league status.

The club has very basic facilities, including a worn down 2,750 capacity stadium containing just 500 seats.

The Clubs books don't look very healthy at all, with a club balance of just £3,938, which I am sure will be in the red come the end of the season. Our only real chance at earning some revenue is going to be through obtaining European football, which is not a likely outcome this season.

The Roving Englishman
In Which a Former Footballer Takes the Reigns in Europe

I. Introduction
In order to bring you this story, I have had to load several countries. All told, I have loaded some 30 leagues and 10 countries: England, Scotland, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, etc. As a result, the speed of progress in the game will be a bit slow. In order to bring regular content to you fine folks, I will fill it with more exposition. I aim to produce 3 entries per week and I estimate that a month will take me about that long. As a result, I will have one entry per week which is largely game-based content, and two entries which will draw from the game's content but expand upon it to give some life to the cast of characters. The format for my updates will largely be diary entries written by the manager; however from time to time, they may take the form of narrative stories, news articles, or match-day coverage. It will all depend on which format I think will make for the best method of telling the story.

In addition to all of that, I do hope that this story can have some content which is reader-generated. That means that I will be asking for your advice. Know of a great transfer find I could make use of? Let me have it. My tactics don't work and I don't know why? Help! All in all, I want to be able to make this a great narrative, but I want you to have some say too. I have scheduled the first story update for tomorrow night. I look forward to bringing it to you.

INTRO

I have recently discovered the culture of sharing your Football Manager stories with others, and spent a long time reading through a good number of these, enjoying them immensely. I have been inspired by others to attempt my own story.

Nomadic has been a great source of inspiration to me and provided me with some kind words of advice, and I have taken a leaf out of his book to try and turn a club from a small nation in to a European trophy winning team and attempting to improve the fortunes of the national side. I have therefore decided on taking on the role as the new manager of Puskas Akademia from Hungary. I first read about this team in Daniel Fieldsends book "The European Game" (a terrific read by the way) and after doing some research decided to attempt to manage this club to the top level of European competition. Hopefully I will be able to improve my coaching ability to eventually taking control of the national national team bringing back a return of the all conquering 'Mighty Magyars' from the 1950's.

2 things you should know about Puskas Akademia.

1. They have a terrific badge

2. Their stadium, Pancho Arena, is one of the most stunning stadiums I have ever seem. Primarily made out of word, it resembles more a religious temple than a footballing arena.

This will be a long term save, one that I foresee being quite a challenge as I know next to nothing about Hungarian football and money will be scarce. Pre-season update to follow shortly.

So i have done a Giggs story before with FM 16 and it was good fun, so thought i'd give it a go again on '17 as the legend is still not a manager. Starting the season unemployed and given him the coaching badges that he currently has as well as the experience. Haven't done one of these in a while so will be interesting how I try and avoid getting sacked.

Took a few months but as the sackings started coming and a few opportunities started rolling through, Luton Town has become the challenge. Currently sitting at 21st in the League 2 table and only 4 wins to their name, a lot of work looks to be in order. Thankfully I have a transfer window coming, so time to evaluate and look at where this team is failing.

it didn't take long to realise where it's been going wrong...the top goalscorer only has 3 goals to his name...

Squad in general, could be better, definitely need to strengthen all over the park, January can't come soon enough...

After going 2-0 down i was expecting the worst, striker Mackail-Smith just was playing crap along with my wingers, a few changes and we managed to get the game back to 2-2. Nice to see we had more chances from the game, meaning going in the right direction but we can have all the chances in the world, without a goalscorer it won't mean a thing. Still a solid comeback and I can't complain.

And after 5 games without a win, we managed to snatch one away at Grimsby. If it wasn't for a dodgy penalty that thankfully Lloyd Saxton caught with ease this result would of been completely different. Again a leaky defence early on making us have to come back from behind, this is definitely something that needs sorting

Well the plan was to take the pressure off McGeehan a bit with the signing of Mauri but this proves why he is one of the better players in the squad, we managed to keep Morecambe at bay with only 1 attempt on target. Two wins on the bounce is a nice way to get Luton back on track.

So far have only taken charge for 3 games but it's all been positive since taking over Luton, with some fresh faces joining to bring depth to the squad. It's going to be an interesting few months and it's too early to see where this will end but there are many games yet to play.

Nottingham Forest - The 'Never Been Successful' Save

$
0
0

This is my story...

This is my first attempt at writing a story, following inspiration taken from reading a number of others on this website.

Hopefully you will follow (and enjoy reading) all my trials and tribulations as manager of Nottingham Forest football club.

So why have I called my story the 'Never Been Successful' Save...

Well I've tried to play as Nottingham Forest on FM16, FM15 and FM14 and without success on any game....in fact I'm pretty sure I was fired within 1 or 2 seasons on each. However, I've never been known for a lack of determination and I'm going to have another go on this year's game! I'm not a Forest fan, but I think they are a Premiership club in waiting - big City club, fantastic stadium (Prem standard), good fanbase, excellent history, good training setup so in principle I think they have everything they need to get the club back to the top of English football. And I want to be the man to get them there!

I'll be writing the story from my perspective. No drawn up news stories or third party accounts at all. This will be all from me, my updates as manager, what I think, what I'm doing and why!

I welcome all comments and feedback.
