Help utilizing the act of counter attack

Hello everyone

I find it very hard to come up with a formation, strategy etc. to sit back soak up some pressure and hit the counter instantly. I always seem to take to many shots, to long time without the ball and when i finally get the ball and try to counter, it is often ineffective.

Any help is highly appreciated
