Developing players in FM Classic

hey just wondering how players develop in classic mode, there is no training schedule in FM classic so im guessing its just how many games they play.

also sometimes i see that a player learns something such as " gets forward more often" im guessing this is random.

one more thing is do older players ( such as Totti in my Roma save ) have any influence on the young players.
